Lumberjack Art Box.

Pulling  in on Saturday night we noticed an illuminated Ryder truck in the abandoned spaghetti warehouse parking lot. Curious. The fact that there was a sizable crowd gathered around enticed us to explore. Explore we did. Low and behold a traveling lumberjack art exhibit had graced the majestic city of Hartford. Boy, were we lucky. [...]

guest drop: capslock’s first stalker sex column, “only the names are changed”

I should have known better when she told me her name.  You can’t trust people with three part names.  Just like John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, James Earl Ray, Mark David Chapman… I should have known Jamie Hollis-Castor was up to no good.  I was going to say it started out innocent enough – [...]

it feels just like the first time i went to ikea.

On Saturday morning, Capslock decided the best way to welcome Capslock-Pittsburgh to the district and kick our Friday night hangover was to dress up like pirates and frolic across state lines to the Maryland Renaissance Festival. Though often dismissed as a freak show populated by gothic middle-age couples in century-denial, the festival is actually the [...]

Free toys with drink purchase. Genius.

Tucked between the houses of a quiet street on Pittsburgh’s south side is a bar experience unlike any other, Bar 11. Without fail you will find bartenders dressed as anything from mad scientists to hot dogs. A seemingly endless supply of candy and toys litter the bar top and intoxicated patrons play the drum set [...]

Glitter + Teenagers = Free MGMT Show

This past weekend I was informed by a friend of mine that MGMT would be playing a Free! show on Sunday. I got quite excited about the prospects of finally seeing this band live after they entered my life in the Spring of ’08 in the Barcelonan nightclub, Razzmatazz. I instantly fell in love, and [...]

Love at the first bite.

For any Pittsburgher, few things come as close to perfection as Primanti’s. Cole slaw, tomato and fries piled on top of your favorite meat or cheese makes for a sandwich fit for the City of Champions. If you need proof of its popularity, just check the mural inside the original Primanti’s shop, which includes paintings [...]

stop/sign.

i love…ignored poets.

You know—the one’s slaving away in brilliant obscurity while teaching undergrads in a cornfield somewhere. Yesterday my professor dumped us in the library and told us we couldn’t leave until we’d checked out at least five modern poetry books. Modern. Not Shel Silverstein. Not John Dunne. Not Of Montreal lyrics. I have a five [...]
